Healthy Valentines Treat… Love Bug

I subscribe to the philosophy that if I wouldn’t give a treat to my own kid I’m not gonna give it to someone elses. So, I’m always on the look out for fun classroom treats that can also give me a win in the more “healthy” column.

Don’t get me wrong I’m all for a treat every now and again, but when I’m sending Mac to school with treats for a class party I try to make sure it’s not something that’s full of sugar. I adore her teacher’s and don’t want to hop a classroom full of students up on the sweet stuff.

This was my answer to Valentine’s Day Party Treats. These Love Bug Cups were easy to assemble and came out super cute!! They took me about 20 mins to make 15 for Mac’s class and were a fun project for us to do together.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED… (I’ve provided links, but most if not all of these items can be found at a craft store or in the craft isle at Walmart)

Dole No Sugar Added Peaches OR to make all Pink Love Bugs… Dole Pineapple in Sugar Free Strawberry Gel Fruit Cups

1.3″ Pom Poms for ends of Pipe Cleaners
Assorted colors and size of Googley Eyes
Pink Foam Sheet for heart shaped feet (I free handed mine, but you can also get precut Foam Hearts too.
1 piece of Any Color Card Stock (for printing note on bottom of cup)
DIRECTIONS:

1. Start by cutting the sparkle pipe cleaners to the length of your desired antenna. I decided to do 1 and curve it into a horseshoe shape. Then glue the sparkle pom poms to each end of the sparkle pipe cleaner.
2. Hot glue the googley eyes to the front of the fruit cup to create the face.  I did both girl and boy Love Bugs so naturally I added eye lashes with a sharpie to the girl bug cups 😉
3. Trace the circle bottoms of the fruit cup onto your card stock and cut out circles. Write out a Valentines Note to each one with your kiddos name.
OR
I did mine using Canva. If you have a Canva account Click THIS LINK and you can use my printable template
4. Hot glue the hearts onto the bottom of the cups so that the hearts are sticking out.
5. Cut out your circle bottoms and clue them over the top of the bottom of the cup.
6. Use a sharpie marker to draw on smiles to your love bugs.
7. Final step is to glue the antennas to the back of the fruit cup so that they will stick straight up.
I’d love to hear how yours go if you decide to try it out!! 🙂
